📖 The Sacred History of Makkah al-Mukarramah (The Noble Makkah)

Makkah, known as the "Mother of Cities" (Umm al-Qura), holds a unique and unparalleled position in Islamic history and the hearts of Muslims worldwide. This blessed city has been a center of monotheism since the time of Prophet Ibrahim (Abraham) عليه السلام and his son Prophet Ismail (Ishmael) عليه السلام, who built the Kaaba by the command of Allah.

🏛️ The Kaaba: The House of Allah

The Kaaba, a cube-shaped structure draped in black cloth embroidered with gold Quranic verses, stands at the heart of Masjid al-Haram. It is the direction (Qibla) towards which over 1.8 billion Muslims turn in prayer five times daily. The Kaaba was first constructed by Prophet Ibrahim and Prophet Ismail around 2000 BCE, making it one of the oldest places of worship dedicated to the worship of the One True God.

"And [mention] when Ibrahim was raising the foundations of the House and [with him] Ismail, [saying], 'Our Lord, accept [this] from us. Indeed You are the Hearing, the Knowing.'"

— Surah Al-Baqarah (2:127)

🌟 Makkah in the Life of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ

Makkah is the birthplace of the final Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, born in the Year of the Elephant (570 CE). It was in a cave on Mount Hira, just outside Makkah, that Angel Jibreel (Gabriel) عليه السلام first descended with the revelation of the Qur'an when the Prophet ﷺ was 40 years old. The first revealed words were:

اقْرَأْ بِاسْمِ رَبِّكَ الَّذِي خَلَقَ ۝ خَلَقَ الْإِنسَانَ مِنْ عَلَقٍ ۝ اقْرَأْ وَرَبُّكَ الْأَكْرَمُ

"Read in the name of your Lord who created - Created man from a clinging substance. Read! And your Lord is the Most Generous."

— Surah Al-Alaq (96:1-3)

For 13 years, the Prophet ﷺ called the people of Makkah to Islam, facing severe persecution but never wavering in his mission. The Quraysh tribe, who controlled Makkah, opposed the message of monotheism as it threatened their economic interests tied to idol worship. Eventually, in 622 CE, the Prophet ﷺ and his followers migrated to Madinah in an event known as the Hijrah, which marks the beginning of the Islamic calendar.

Eight years later, in 630 CE, the Prophet ﷺ returned to Makkah victoriously with 10,000 companions in the Conquest of Makkah (Fath Makkah). He entered the city peacefully, granted general amnesty to his former persecutors, and purified the Kaaba of the 360 idols that had been placed there during the pre-Islamic era (Jahiliyyah). He declared:

"Truth has come and falsehood has vanished. Indeed, falsehood is bound to vanish."

✨ The Virtues and Blessings of Makkah

Makkah is distinguished by numerous virtues mentioned in the Qur'an and Sunnah:

  1. Allah's chosen sanctuary: It is the only city that Allah Himself has made sacred (Haram).
  2. Multiplied rewards: Prayers in Masjid al-Haram are multiplied by 100,000 times compared to prayers elsewhere, as mentioned in authentic Hadith.
  3. Protected by angels: Angels stand guard at its entrances, and the Dajjal (Antichrist) will never be able to enter it.
  4. Site of Hajj and Umrah: Performing these pilgrimages to Makkah is one of the Five Pillars of Islam.
  5. Zamzam water: The blessed well of Zamzam, which miraculously appeared for Hajar and her son Ismail, continues to flow to this day.

The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said:

"Prayer in my mosque (Masjid an-Nabawi) is better than a thousand prayers in any other mosque except Masjid al-Haram, and prayer in Masjid al-Haram is better than one hundred thousand prayers in any other mosque."

— Narrated by Ibn Majah

🕌 The Illuminated City: Madinah al-Munawwarah

Madinah al-Munawwarah (The Enlightened City), originally known as Yathrib, holds a special place in Islamic history as the city that welcomed the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ and his companions when they were persecuted in Makkah. It became the first Islamic state and the place where the Muslim community (Ummah) was established.

💚 Masjid an-Nabawi: The Prophet's Mosque

At the heart of Madinah stands Masjid an-Nabawi (The Prophet's Mosque), one of the largest and most beautiful mosques in the world. Originally built by the Prophet ﷺ himself in 622 CE, it has been expanded numerous times throughout history. Today, it can accommodate over a million worshippers.

The most distinctive feature of the mosque is the Green Dome (Al-Qubbah al-Khadra), which marks the location of the Prophet's ﷺ burial chamber (Hujrah Sharif). Beneath this dome lies the resting place of:

  • Prophet Muhammad ﷺ (the final Messenger of Allah)
  • Abu Bakr as-Siddiq رضي الله عنه (the first Caliph and closest companion)
  • Umar ibn al-Khattab رضي الله عنه (the second Caliph)

Every day, millions of Muslims from around the world visit this sacred site to send peace and blessings upon the Prophet ﷺ:

إِنَّ اللَّهَ وَمَلَائِكَتَهُ يُصَلُّونَ عَلَى النَّبِيِّ ۚ يَا أَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا صَلُّوا عَلَيْهِ وَسَلِّمُوا تَسْلِيمًا

"Indeed, Allah confers blessing upon the Prophet, and His angels [ask Him to do so]. O you who have believed, ask [Allah to confer] blessing upon him and ask [Allah to grant him] peace."

— Surah Al-Ahzab (33:56)

🌱 The Rawdah: A Garden from Paradise

Within Masjid an-Nabawi is a blessed area known as Rawdah Sharif (The Noble Garden), located between the Prophet's ﷺ pulpit (Minbar) and his house (now the burial chamber). This area is identified by green carpets, distinguishing it from the red carpets in the rest of the mosque. The Prophet ﷺ said:

"Between my house and my pulpit is a garden from the gardens of Paradise, and my pulpit is upon my Basin (Hawd)."
— Sahih al-Bukhari

Praying in the Rawdah is considered highly meritorious, and millions of pilgrims seek the opportunity to worship in this blessed space.

💫 Virtues of Madinah in Islam

Madinah holds numerous blessings and virtues:

  1. The City of the Prophet ﷺ: It is honored as the city where the Prophet ﷺ lived for 10 years and established the Islamic state.
  2. Sanctuary (Haram): Like Makkah, Madinah is a sacred sanctuary. Hunting and cutting trees within its boundaries are prohibited.
  3. Protected from evil: The Prophet ﷺ said that the Dajjal will not be able to enter Madinah, and angels guard its entrances.
  4. Multiplied prayers: One prayer in Masjid an-Nabawi is equivalent to 1,000 prayers elsewhere (except Masjid al-Haram).
  5. City of migration: Those who die in Madinah receive a special intercession from the Prophet ﷺ on the Day of Judgment.
  6. Faith returns to Madinah: The Prophet ﷺ said, "Faith returns to Madinah as a snake returns to its hole."

📿 Daily Adhkar: The Fortress of the Believer

"The example of the one who remembers his Lord and the one who does not remember his Lord is like that of the living and the dead."
— Sahih al-Bukhari

🌅 Morning Adhkar: Starting Your Day with Blessings

"Whoever recites Ayatul Kursi at night will remain under the protection of Allah, and no Satan will come near him until morning."
— Sahih al-Bukhari

🕌 After Salah Adhkar: Completing Your Worship

The Adhkar recited after each of the five daily prayers are equally important. These include Tasbih (Subhan Allah 33 times), Tahmid (Alhamdulillah 33 times), and Takbir (Allahu Akbar 34 times), followed by recitation of Ayatul Kursi and the three Quls (Surah Al-Ikhlas, Al-Falaq, and An-Nas).

📖 Qur'anic Treasures: Protection and Guidance

The Noble Qur'an is the eternal word of Allah, revealed to Prophet Muhammad ﷺ over 23 years. It is the primary source of guidance for Muslims and contains verses of immense spiritual power and protection. Our Qur'an section highlights some of the most significant chapters and verses:

🛡️ Ayatul Kursi: The Greatest Verse

Ayatul Kursi (The Throne Verse) from Surah Al-Baqarah (2:255) is widely regarded as the greatest verse in the Qur'an. It eloquently describes Allah's sovereignty, knowledge, and power over all creation. The Prophet ﷺ said:

"Whoever recites Ayatul Kursi after every obligatory prayer, nothing prevents him from entering Paradise except death."
— An-Nasa'i

"Allah - there is no deity except Him, the Ever-Living, the Sustainer of existence. Neither drowsiness overtakes Him nor sleep. To Him belongs whatever is in the heavens and whatever is on the earth..."

— Surah Al-Baqarah (2:255)

🌙 Last Two Verses of Surah Al-Baqarah: Protection at Night

The final two verses of Surah Al-Baqarah (2:285-286) are recited for protection, especially before sleep. The Prophet ﷺ said:

"Whoever recites the last two verses of Surah Al-Baqarah at night, they will be sufficient for him."
— Sahih al-Bukhari

These verses affirm the Messenger's ﷺ belief in what was revealed to him, the equality of all prophets in our belief, and Allah's mercy in not burdening souls beyond their capacity.

⭐ Manzil: The Ruqyah Collection

Manzil is a collection of seven specific Qur'anic chapters and verses compiled by the great Islamic scholar Maulana Muhammad Zakariyya Kandhlawi (may Allah have mercy on him). It is recited for protection from:

✨ The Six Kalimas: Pillars of Faith

The Six Kalimas (declarations of faith) are fundamental Islamic statements that every Muslim should know and regularly recite. Each Kalima serves a specific purpose:

Ruqyah is the Islamic practice of spiritual healing through recitation of Qur'anic verses and prophetic supplications. It is permissible and recommended for protection and treatment of:

  • Evil eye (Al-Ayn): Harm caused by jealousy or admiration
  • Black magic (Sihr): Supernatural harm inflicted through sorcery

[We seek] Your forgiveness, our Lord, and to You is the [final] destination.' Allah does not charge a soul except [with that within] its capacity. It will have [the consequence of] what [good] it has gained, and it will bear [the consequence of] what [evil] it has earned. 'Our Lord, do not impose blame upon us if we have forgotten or erred. Our Lord, and lay not upon us a burden like that which You laid upon those before us. Our Lord, and burden us not with that which we have no ability to bear. And pardon us; and forgive us; and have mercy upon us. You are our protector, so give us victory over the disbelieving people.'"

Benefit: The Prophet (peace be upon him) said, "Whoever recites the last two verses of Surah Al-Baqarah at night, they will be sufficient for him." (Bukhari) These verses provide protection, forgiveness, and sufficiency for the night.

5. Evening Dhikr (33 times each)

Subhanallah (33x) - Alhamdulillah (33x) - Allahu Akbar (33x)

"Glory be to Allah (33 times) - All praise is for Allah (33 times) - Allah is the Greatest (33 times)"

Benefit: These three phrases are known as the "praises of glory" and their recitation in the evening and morning is highly recommended. The Prophet (peace be upon him) said that whoever recites these will have their sins forgiven even if they are as abundant as the foam of the sea.

6. Protection from Evil (3 times)

"In the name of Allah, with whose name nothing on earth or in heaven can cause harm, and He is the All-Hearing, the All-Knowing."

Benefit: The Prophet (peace be upon him) said, "Whoever recites this three times in the evening will not be afflicted with any sudden harm that night." (Abu Dawud, Tirmidhi) This is a powerful protection against all forms of harm.

7. Evening Dua for Forgiveness (3 times)

"O Allah, You are my Lord, there is no deity except You. You have created me, and I am Your servant, and I am trying my best to keep my covenant and promise to You. I seek refuge in You from the evil of what I have done. I acknowledge Your favor upon me, and I acknowledge my sin. So forgive me, for indeed none forgives sins except You."

Benefit: The Prophet (peace be upon him) said that whoever recites this supplication with conviction in the evening and dies that night will enter Paradise. Similarly, whoever recites it in the morning with conviction and dies during the day will enter Paradise. (Bukhari)

🛡️ Ayatul Kursi - The Greatest Verse

Allahu la ilaha illa Huwal-Hayyul-Qayyum. La ta'khudhuhu sinatun wa la nawm. Lahu ma fis-samawati wa ma fil-ard. Man dhalladhi yashfa'u 'indahu illa bi'idhnihi. Wa la yuhituna bi shay'in min 'ilmihi illa bima sha'a. Wasi'a kursiyyuhus-samawati wal-ard. Wa la ya'uduhu hifdhuhuma. Wa Huwal-'Aliyyul-'Azim.

"Allah! There is no deity except Him, the Ever-Living, the Sustainer of [all] existence. Neither drowsiness overtakes Him nor sleep. To Him belongs whatever is in the heavens and whatever is on the earth. Who is it that can intercede with Him except by His permission? He knows what is [presently] before them and what will be after them, and they encompass not a thing of His knowledge except for what He wills. His Kursi extends over the heavens and the earth, and their preservation tires Him not. And He is the Most High, the Most Great."
